Letter from the Publisher/Editor
Welcome to Lucky Dog Magazine! If you haven’t picked up a copy of our magazine or subscribed yet, I’m confident that when you do you and your dog loving friends will LOVE
our publication and what it has to offer. Not only is our magazine beautiful, but it’s also full of articles and features that are sure to entertain, enlighten, maybe make you a
bit emotional, and inspire.
I often get asked how and why my friend Amy Hosier (Owner of Creative Aim, a graphic design company) and I started Lucky Dog Magazine. I’m known among many to be a
chatty Cathy, so I always try to keep the story short (which as you can imagine is hard for me to do). Here’s my short version:
It all started after I adopted Francis, my beautiful flat-coated retriever mix, who instantly changed my life. I had many dogs as a child growing up, but none that were truly my own. I
always joke that Francis is a child in a dog suit and that she is more human than some people I’ve met.
Francis and I hit it off from the moment I spotted her bouncing around in a kennel inside a local PetsMart. A local non-profit animal rescue organization, Adopt-A-Rescue Pet, was
hosting an adoption event that day. Just before adopting her, I had a terrible experience with a flat-coated retriever mix who had been put to sleep during the time I was looking to
adopt him. Of course I could hardly believe that three weeks later I would find another flat-coated retriever mix. Needless to say, I adopted her on the spot. We’ve been inseparable
ever since.
During a brainstorm session with Amy, who happens to be one of the best graphic designers I know, we came up with the concept of a magazine that featured only adopted or
rescued dogs on the cover. Francis adorned our very first issue which was fitting considering she was the reason I started the magazine.
The vision was to combine our talents and passion for animals and turn it into Vegas' first and only full-color magazine for dog lovers. Each bi-monthly issue is packed with fun and
fabulous feature articles including pet artists profiles, book excerpts and reviews, exclusive interviews with those making a difference in the animal community and so much more.
We have a passion for dogs (and cats) and so do our writers. We hope that with each new issue, we can continue to educate, enlighten and entertain. In addition, we hope to
increase awareness about the importance of adopting and rescuing pets from local animal shelters and adoption organizations.
We hope you enjoy our magazine!
